RESEARCHERS AND SCHOLARS PROGRAMS
As part of our ongoing efforts to expose our students to cutting edge research and top-notch international scholars, the Institute of International relations at the University of São Paulo has created two programs to welcome foreign researchers seeking a temporary academic home.
1) Researchers Program:
Aimed at ABDs or recent PhDs seeking a research base from which to
conduct dissertation research or to complete research that will become
either a book manuscript or a significant academic article.
Researchers at the beginning of their academic careers are welcomed
for periods of anywhere from a few weeks to a full year. While
researchers are expected to fund their own travel, room and board
expenses (ideally through a funding agency such as, for example, the
U.S. Fulbright program), the Institute will gladly provide research
support, including a proper space in our venues, computer and library
access, and auditing privileges in our graduate courses. In return,
researchers are requested to provide a presentation of their research
findings to our faculty and graduate students at the end of their time
with us.
2)Scholars Program:
The Institute welcomes scholars from universities abroad, for periods
ranging from a few days to a few months.
Candidates for the Scholars Program are particularly encouraged to apply
in advance, as those who apply with sufficient lead-time may be eligible
for a stipend, the Institute will apply for at Brazilian Research
Funding Institutions (FAPESP, CAPES and CNPq) provided they are able to
commit to spend at least one month with us. We will also gladly provide
these scholars with a proper space in our venues, and computer and
library access. We ask that research scholars provide us with a
presentation of their general research at the end of their time with us;
other opportunities for teaching and interacting with our students are
also available, but not required. While we are particularly interested
in hosting researchers and scholars conducting research in international
relations, international economics, international law, history of
international relations and comparative politics, we do not require a
specific commitment to the study of Brazil. We are most interested in
receiving scholars of diverse methodological and research backgrounds,
who display a strong commitment to high-level international relations
research.
We welcome inquiries on a rolling basis. Prospective candidates
should send a short overview of their intended research project, a
letter explaining their interest in the USP, and a CV (in English or
Portuguese) to
